Length: 1 minutes, 3 seconds
Difficulty: 10/10
General info:
An immensely cool battle theme that plays when you are in
a, well, battle.
About the original:
This was one of the songs in the MMX5 soundtrack that
I did just because it´s just so cool. I love the sense of mad panic that´s
reflected in this song - it has an uneasy feel to it, as if the guy you´re
fighting has completely lost his mind (which, in fact, isn´t far from
the truth). The song is good proof of Tanaka-san´s talent - he is in his
right element when doing techno music, that´s for sure.
Motivation:
Just so I could boast about it later.
Sequencing the MIDI:
Considering that this was the second MMX song I ever tried to
sequence, the end result isn´t that bad but still very far from the original
due to a couple of things. First and foremost, the composer uses a high pass
filter to almost completely get rid of the bass. This is not possible to emulate
in a .mid file. Also, a lot of crazy effect work has been applied to the melody
line, and that wasn´t easy either. I tried my best to use pitchbends in
a way that would reflect the wailing effect used in the song, but only got half
the way. I had great help from a friend of mine determining the choir chords,
which were rather difficult to pin down.
The seashore effect is there because of the rushing sound effects in the original.
If you feel that this effect completely ruins the .mid, feel free to remove
it - I have noticed that it tends to grow insanely loud on some sound cards.
About the ending result:
I know this is far from the original, but give me a break - there
are only so many things you can emulate in a MIDI.
